Farmers Mutual Fire Insurance Company of Marble
Serving the Area for Over 125 Years
When the company was founded in 1881, it was one of two insurance companies located in the village of Jamestown as Marble was then known. Both companies were organized as assessable mutual insurance companies to fill a void when other insurance companies refused to provide insurance coverage to rural property owners. Farmers Mutual wrote only fire and lighting coverage on farms and residential properties. The Jamestown Mutual Windstorm Insurance Company wrote only the perils of wind and hail. Around that time, there were two other insurance companies located in Clarion county writing similar types of coverage. These were the Clarion County Mutual Fire Insurance Company and the Limestone Mutual Insurance Company.
As the years passed, Farmers Mutual expanded its writings to include other forms of coverage including a variety of multi-line coverages and it removed the assessable option in its policies while the Jamestown Mutual continued to write only the perils of wind and hail. The outcome was inevitable and in 1983, Farmers Mutual acquired the Jamestown Mutual Windstorm Insurance Company. In 1986 Farmers assumed the management of the Clarion County Mutual Fire Insurance Company and finally merged that company into Farmers in 2006. In another friendly acquisition, the company merged the Freehold Mutual insurance company into Farmers in 2002.
Between the years of 1881 and 1976 the company had grown to a company with insurance premium of just over one million dollars. In 2006 the company reached a milestone by writing over ten million dollars in premium. With more than 21,000 policies in effect the company provides more than three billion dollars in property coverage in Pennsylvania. The company is represented by several independent insurance agencies across the state to provide coverage to property owners.
As a small local insurance carrier, Farmers Mutual strives to provide competitive insurance coverage for homeowners, mobile homeowners, seasonal and tenant occupied dwellings, farmowners and commercial properties while providing timely and efficient customer service.
